Vanessa Kent, LMFT, LPCS, NCC
Vanessa Kent, LMFT, LPCS, NCC, is a licensed marriage and family therapist as well as a licensed professional counselor and AMMFT Approved Clinical Supervisor. She is in the process completing her doctorate degree at Regent University in the spring of 2018, integrating faith, counseling, and supervision practices. Vanessa’s dissertation research included mentoring women to strengthen their identity as professionals and mothers.
Vanessa works with adults in individual, marital and family therapy. She also provides ADHD assessments in adults and children. She specializes in:
- Life transitions such as pre-marital, divorce recovery, parenting, and adoption;
- Life challenges such as anxiety, depression, conflicted relationships, losses, and trauma;
- Women’s issues including life changes, sexual abuse and physical violence, and partner betrayal through sexual addiction, substance abuse, or infidelity.
She uses multiple researched approaches that combine attachment theory and neuroscience including Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Families (EFT), Gottman Couple’s Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Trust-Based Relational Interventions (TBRI) for adoptive families.
She enjoys integrating theology and spirituality into the psychological practice when preferred by clients. She believes clients have resiliency and are capable of growing and healing in the context of safe, empathic relationships that address the cognitive, physical and spiritual qualities of the person. She is passionate about helping women discover their voices and find beauty for ashes.
She has been married for 25 years and has three children.
