There is no such thing as a quick fix for the soul. When Jesus heals us, it is an empowerment to grow and persevere, because life in this world is hard and to be transformed by the renewal of our minds takes grit and grace.

Ryan trained as a Christian counselor at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received departmental honors for his work. He worked for two years as a staff therapist with a multi-state Christian counseling practice based in Connecticut before moving to the Durham area with his wife who is pursuing her doctorate at Duke University.

Ryan’s experience as a lifelong learner in multiple fields, including teaching, tutoring, writing, counseling, carpentry and fine furniture crafting, give him a facility for partnering with his clients as they move through difficult, challenging, and painful times in their lives.

As a Christian Counselor, Ryan is interested in living out God’s call to serve others with mercy, grace, and truth, and this manifests itself in each counseling relationship differently because each client’s goals and challenges require adaptation and perseverance.

Ryan has worked with individuals, couples, and families struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, relational problems, spiritual concerns and learning disabilities. Ryan has heart for helping men work through life transitions and crises. He also has experience and coursework in the field of special needs education at the middle and high school levels, and has been involved with helping families with children with learning differences advocate, adapt and move forward.

Building upon 18 years of professional youth ministry and pastoral experience, I have accumulated more than one year clinical experience while practicing as an intern at Life Care Counseling and Coaching in Raleigh, NC. As such, I have a wealth of professional and practical experience to offer adolescents and families in a clinical setting. I have recently graduated from Wake Forest University with a Master of the Arts (MA) in Clinical Mental Health. I happy to announce that I am now a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a licensed professional counselor associate (LPCA) in the state of North Carolina.

Nothing gives me more joy or energy than deeply connecting with other human beings. I cherish the privilege to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. I have a unique penchant for working with those who are grieving, or have been bereaved as well as those who are disabled.

My deepest conviction is that true healing only takes place in the presence of Jesus and is the result of the direct work of the Holy Spirit. There is no substitute. Another of my deepest convictions is that all people, regardless of their race, creed, ethnicity, culture, abilities, limitations or socio-economic status possess an inherent dignity that deserves my full attention and respect.

“In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.” – Psalm 18:6

Jerry Lankford – MBA, MACC, MDiv, LPCS

Schedule an Appoinment Online

As co-founder and president of LifeCare Counseling & Coaching, Jerry provides individual, marriage and family counseling in both Raleigh and Abingdon, VA. He works with clients who suffer from mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, drug addiction, sexual addiction, post traumatic stress disorder, dissociative disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and personality disorder.

Jerry has developed a special interest in the way trauma affects our outlook on life. The small and big hurts we receive throughout our life develop perspectives which translate into powerful forces that produce anxiety, depression, and other negative beliefs that leave us struggling. There are techniques such as inner healing prayer and EMDR that produce remarkable results in only a few sessions. EMDR is a state of the art technique proven to address anxiety, flashbacks, and nightmares in those who have experienced trauma.

Jerry is also highly trained in couples counseling. He has completed Gottman Traning through Level 3, which focuses on a research-based study of more than 3,000 couples. They empirically determined what is needed for successful relationships. Jerry is also completing training in Emotionally Focus Couples Therapy. This model looks at our attachment needs and how those needs develop into unhealthy patterns called Demon Dialogues to produce the conflict that destroys our intimacy. By learning to recognized those patterns and our needs we can achieve a new intimacy that we have lost hope in ever having again.

With degrees from Vanderbilt, Purdue, Duke and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and experience leading within multi-national corporations, Jerry is a life-long learner and is uniquely qualified to provide business coaching and career counseling to fellow Christians. Jerry spent more than 26 years as a senior level manager with international experience in software and hardware engineering as well as research and development leadership. Jerry is founder of Corporate Grace, a CEO Roundtable for Christian Business Owners. He has additional professional training in leadership development, negotiating, and integrity leadership.
